What is causing this?

Post by Gingerfish »

I only noticed it when I imaged on this side of the sun. The internal Baader filter, or maybe the tilt adapter?

How do I remove it or reduce it? More tilt?

Thanks! :D

Reflections such as this can often be eliminated adding a circular polarising filter, or tilting the reflecting surface. You just need to find out what’s causing the problem....trial and error I’m afraid.

It's case of systematic elimination. Rotate various components in the optical train until you find the culprit, then when we know which one it is can work out a solution.

Definitely a reflection because you have the exposure set so high. I also get this but managed to reduce it a lot by adding black card inside my nosepiece of the camera.

Thanks guys.

I have flocking paper inside the nosepiece, but maybe I should cover everything inside the camera.

Alexandra,
What do mean by a black card in the nosepiece of the camera?

Family dinner on Sunday, but I made it home before the sun set behind the house. I removed the Baader filter, that did nothing. I flocked the camera and eyepiece. That knocked down the worst of it, but there was still a faint glow left behind. Taped over every gap in the system, no difference.

Any other suggestions or do I just have to live with the faint glow?
