April 11 2021 Observations. Visual and Imaging.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is 9:48am until 11:50am EDT local time ( US ). The skies are mostly clear with just a few stray clouds present. The seeing is fair. The temperature is 64F.

Coronado SolarMax II 90 DS. 32x, 44.5x, 64x and 89x ( Ha )
The first things I notice is a bright plage and prominences all around the limb! The plage is easy to see and is located in the SE quadrant of the disc. It seems to be split into two halves. There is a second disturbance on the disc located in the north-central disc on the longitudinal central meridian but it is barely visible as a mere disturbance in the field of mottles. I can see three thin filaments south of it and NW of the brighter plage. I can also see two filaments near the north pole and another SE of it. There is also another tiny one in the far south.

The prominences are the big attractions today. First off there is the " splay legged beast " prom on the SE limb just south of some hedgerow proms. It looks like an animal ready to fight! The NE sees another bright prom with some nice vertical structure within. The NW also has a bright prom with curved appendages within it. The SW has a triple-group with the northernmost one showing decent detail to both eye and camera.

The spicule layer on the limb is easily seen and I can see some fine detail within it. The mottles on the disc are of good contrast today too.

Celestron NexStar 102GT w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 55x and 110x ( WL )
I can see a double cluster of fine pores located at the location of the bright AR plage. They are so small and close together I cannot resolve all of them. The SDO HMI continuum image gives an even better view of them. I can also see faint faculae near the SE limb and a few tiny ones near the south pole. I see no prominent spots anywhere on the solar disc.

The granulation is easily seen.

I did image today as well and have attached some of my images here.

Enjoy.

James

Nice report and great shots JAmes. I wish i'd got the scope out again for a look at them in Ha on reflection yesterday, but was being fixated with CaK.

Mark,
I would have done CaK as well if I would have had the filters for it. Your CaK work is great!
