Erupting Prominence Sequence
Erupting Prominence Sequence
While following the backstreaming activity of a spread out quiescent prominence along the eastern limb, a filament just beyond the limb, in the area that would eventually be designated AR11391 suddenly lifted up blocking the view of the more distant prominence. Though clouds interrupted viewing, the erupting prominence continued lifting away from the limb, disappearing from view in H-alpha. Unfortunately, seeing was typical winter type with Sol relatively low over neighboring rooftops. Still, it is relatively rare to see a large prominence rise up in front of a more distant prominence. A small thing....relatively speaking, but fascinating all the same.
Re: Erupting Prominence Sequence
Jim, that is an amazing sequence. The time span is short but such movements during that time is surprising. Very well captured and processed.

I followed the lift off through thickening clouds until the plasma appeared to dissipate, and no longer visible in H-alpha. Did you see any of the material reappear and return to the chromosphere?

Truly magnificent work Jim, that was one amazing event and to be there capturing from the start, well you lucky thing! That was very quick too, that plasma must have been moving very fast. Did you get any doppler (red or blue wing) to go with this?

Hi Alexandra
No off-line images, seeing was to sporadic with intervening clouds. Definitely would have been cool, though, as we would be able to determine the direction of outburst movement relative to line of site. Hopefully, next time.
