Program Capture.../ DMK31AU03.AS
Hi
Could you tell me, which program do you use, along with your DMK ccd cameras?
Whats your capture speed, lets say with a DMK31...
I use Lucam Recorder and lately, I have noticed that i cant have more than 13 frms/sec...
I also noticed that i have a lot of dropped frames...
Does anyone know why this is happening..?
Thank you in advance
Peter

Hi Peter:
I always use IC Capture. I also use Lucam Recorder with the my skynyx 2.0M.
With my DMK41 and IC Capture I can go up to 15 frames/sec.
Hope this helps

Re: Program Capture.../ DMK31AU03.AS
I like Pedro use the IC Capture V2.2 for my DMK41 firewire camera.
To be honest I haven't worried too much about the frame rate, rather the exposure times...
When the exposure is set to a longer number than the frame rate it takes precedence, (ie a 1/11 sec prom exposure, but with, say, 20 frames per second, will give 1/11 sec exposure at a lower framerate.) but the play back speed is at the selected frame rate, ie 20 frames/ sec.

Re: Program Capture.../ DMK31AU03.AS
I suspect the computer has much to do with consistent capture frame rate. My Acer laptop dose not capture at 15 frames per second with the DMK41, but my desktop computer does fine. With the DMK21 it pretty consistently capture at 60 frames per second. The laptop is a 1.3GHz with less than 2 MB ram using USB2.
Also, IC Capture is pretty buggy in my laptop (regular lock-ups and crashes), less so in my desktop. Lucam Recorder is the more consistent performer in my laptop, but does still occasionally lock up.
With a laptop, would running with a reduced screen image size, like 50%, help with frame rate or crashing?
What is the minimum RAM or what ever it is called now for recording and viewing video format larger than 640x480?

Yes, if you have lots of RAM and a fast CPU things go a lot smoother. I now use for image acquisition an i5 Toshiba laptop with 4Gb of RAM and W7 64 bits. It never crashes when I am recording avis. Sometimes I get >50Gb of data in a single imaging session. You also need lots of disk space.

My experiences echoes that of others... I get a consisent 30fps with my DMK31 with IC Capture, however with firecapture hovver only around 12 / 13 fps...

Hi Peter
it is so different.
With my DMK31 and IC-Capture I ran at 30 fps, with the DMK41 at 15 fps. With firecapture and the basler 640 GigE I ran 100 fps and firecapture with basler 1400 I manage 30 fps. All this on the same laptop (Dell Vostro 1320 with intel duo core/USB or GigE)

mark,
Are you using the firewire accelerator available from Imaging Source?

I would like to learn more about firecapture software. Never used it. Is it better than IC Capture (for DMK cameras)?

Re: Program Capture.../ DMK31AU03.AS
Thanks for your suggestions guys!
I think i have to take into consideration "Merlin66's" and Jim Ferreira's suggestions, for my upcoming photo shoot.
I don't think there is a problem with my laptop (Toshiba Satellite A100-906 intel(R)Core(TM)2CPU [email protected] 1.32GHz, 2GB RAM), since, last summer, i made some videos with 25 frms/sec for 1024X768 resolution.!!
Truth is, i don't use my IC-Capture so often.
*Merlin66...what's your name please...

Thanks Walter:
I already visited the firecapture website. It looks very interesting.
