Jan 14 Proms

Post by Ken Crawford »

Hello,

I just returned from the AAS meetings in Austin and imaged DSO last night. The seeing was good so I thought I would give todays Sun a try. Here is a result of one of the AVI runs. I have several more but ran out of processing time.

I did not use any wavelets - only Smart Sharpen.

Nice work Ken. One nice thing about smart sharpen is the ability on proms to not sharpen the background which of course turns up the noise. Can I ask why you prefer negative disks but positive proms?

Very nice Ken. Here's my capture of a similar area (processed "my way") around the same time. The disk was pretty featureless when I looked but the proms were nice.

Correct - in fact you split the sharpening into Mids - Shadows - Highlights. I am finising up a tutorial on it now.

I like the inverted surface because it adds more depth when there is not much to see and does not look so flat. I get many more responses to these types of images from the casual or non-imaging crowd. I have always been keen on watching what the majority of views like ;)

Hi Ken,
Great image. I liked your idea to have the disc image inverted to pick up more contrast on the solar surface. Also the final composition with the non-inverted proms, came out just great.

Best Regards,

Fernando
