Finally a Sunny Day in Atlanta

Post by adpryor »

It has been cloudy for so long in Atlanta. We finally had ONE day that was clear, 12/30/2012. Then it clouded up again. The seeing was OK, but I was glad to even see the sun for one day. This is what I saw in the way of sunspots.

I have seen photos of sunspots from other members that show incredible detail. I am wondering how you guys get the detail.

Alan

The equipment - Lunt 100mm Ha with a FLEA3 camera. This is it in my pasture. Far back, behind the oak tree you can see the wood fence. That is the wind break and light shield for my dark sky observing spot.

Alan use the histogram to dial in your pressure tuner on your Lunt. Are you seeing a better image on your computer screen? If so then the problem with the lack of detail is in your processing method. Hope this helps. BTW very nice equipment. Randy

Thanks mr40mm. Good idea on the histogram. I am using FireCapture to capture the video. I am not near my video capture laptop, but I am assuming FireCapture has a histogram function. I am guessing that I can use the histogram for setting the exposure too. I may need help on the focus since I must do it manually.

For dark sky I use an automated focusing system, but I do not have that capability on the solar scope.

Glad you had some sun. It has been 3 days of 100% cloud coverage for me. Here is a tutorial to my website on Using the Histogram
