Early Morning Prom. Huge

Post by Derek Klepp »

Todays events unfolded that I had a 30 minute window at 7.15am this morning.Around 20:00UT 9th Feb. I had a quick look at the Sun with the 60mm Daystar and could not believe what I was seeing .I quickly set up the 100mm Lunt and got some snaps. The whole prom using the 2.4X extender the close ups using it + a 2x barlow. The changes in 20 minutes were significant. Shame I had to go to work.As an aside I have just looked to my right as my son points out a waning moon rising over the trees. It is a good day.

These are incredible Derek! the depth effect is wonderful as your pictures show the filament curving round the limb and upwards. Great work and very lucky!!

Hi Derek,
Amazing sequence !! The forth image (first colorized) shows a very thin loop... that is impressive.

It is amazing so much plasma's activity that we can see on these images without a single spot around. I am confused about this behaviour of the sun.

Outstanding job Derek.

That is awesome Derek, it is very similar to what I saw yesterday before the liftoff.

I am curious what kind of mount do you use?
I have a HEQ5 PRO an older version but it does the Job

Hi Fernando...

I believe we have a new AR on the limb that does not show well (under the prom), and it looks to me like the prom is reaching back over the limb...probably more hidden activity influencing this one.

Hi Brian,
I see what you mean. Yes, I agree it is what looks like.
