Sunspots 1422 and 1423 in whitelight

Post by AndrevdHoeven »

Today I tried to image sunspot 1422 and 1423 in whitelight. Unfortunately seeing was that bad that I couldn't go to 5x barlow, so I had to stay with 2,5x. But even this gave nice results. The image was made with an ED110 with DMK21(618) and powermate 2.5x in combination with a herschelprism with ND and solar continuum filter.

Hi Andre...

Nice set of images! I like the contrast...it shows the faculae nicely and the spots are nice and sharrp.

Thanks for your nice remarks. The great halpha images here have triggered me to start thinking about building my own h-alpha telescope this year. Currently I'm thinking about a skywatcher 100/1000 refractor with a 110mm baader d-erf and pst etalon... Would this be a good combi? Is there much to gain by going even bigger (120mm) or is the gain then not so much? I will be probably posting much more questions in the modding forum this year...

I plan on making a 100mm f10 PST scope this year, I think you'll be onto a winner ;)
