Our Cameron Park Community Observatory hosted what we hope is the first International Solar SUNday event yesterday. With seven Ha & white light scopes, from a P.S.T. to a pair of 90mm Ha's and a 100mm NP-101, our Docent team met with 209 visitors in a 4 hour period. Most visitors had never viewed the Sun before. Also on the menu was a live solar feed from SHOOH, a demonstration of solar imaging techniques and a Docent presentation entitled, "Get to Know our Sun". We also featured a solar face-painting booth for the kids, but we found many adults in line wanting to sport a temporary Solar Tattoo for the days' event. Despite temps over 90 degrees F. most visitors spent an hour or more listening to the Docents talk about solar events and looking through each scope many times.
Thanks to Stephen for coming up with this idea. Thanks also for the Solar Glasses that we gave to the kids (After an instructive talk on viewing safety.)
A tribute to the public interest generated by Solar SUNday was the many visitors who asked when our next solar event was planned.
T'was a very good day.
Forrest

A very great success Forrest! It was visiting your wonderful public facility that I first learned about the event.
Best wishes,
