request for support of a 20-school astronomy (primarily solar) project

Post by stets »

Good morning, Stephen and all,

On the 17th of May, I have been invited to make a presentation to a group of principals and superintendents who send their students to a regional arts and technology school. The principal of that school would like to see students receive credit (dual enrollment high-school and college credit for astronomy, math, and photography) for participation in the proposed program.

Attached are a few images of student images and projects:

1. John Dobson constructing a 10" telescope with some of my students in 1999.
2. a student with an analemma completed in 2003
3. an image of post-flare loops from 2005

Two foundations have expressed interest in supporting the building of an observatory at the arts and technology high school. That includes equipment to be used for outreach at the 20 sending schools, i.e., several scopes, tripods, mounts, and cameras, etc.

What would be nice at this point would be a letter of support from the largest solar outreach program on the planet; that is you all. It could be helpful to let the principals and superintendents know that there is a vital, active community that would welcome their students.

Thank you, in advance, for your assistance and support.

Best regards,
Stets
