Outreach 1- just beginning
Outreach 1- just beginning
Well not sure if 2 people counts, but I had a guy in the neighborhood and his 8th grader over to the Space Hut today. Not a cloud in the sky here in the northeast! We did some visual Ha using my modded ED80 and I'm telling you guys, I am blown away by how amazing this stuff looks through an eyepiece!! I have been almost exclusively a digital observer but since I was having folks over I decided to give the eyepiece a try. Especially now with the active Sun this is completely mesmerizing! I convinced this guy to drag his son away from SpongeBob and man was he glad he came! I got several very loud "KEWLLLLL!"'s out of him during the 2 hour visit. He left with a pair of Sun shades and some reading materials and a big smile on his face! A major Win-Win there. MUCH more to come!
Re: Outreach 1- just beginning
YES it counts! :cheer:
I agree that seeing the sun through an eyepiece is the best! Then you get to come here and see it all again thanks to our amazing imagers.

Yep, sharing the Sun with at least one other person at the eyepiece is an outreach event in my book. It only "counts" if you go and log it at the NASA Night SKy Network though Doctor so please do so. It is a little difficult to navigate the logging form but just put down what you know and skip the rest, mainly the date time and how many people. Avoid and extra details as the form is almost endess.
The reporting of outreach events through our club site on NSN is the main legitimate way for us to get resources from outside of my wallet, which is my hope as I am retiring from my super salaried job in 2014 and need data to go and show to corps for funding. Right now I pay for 90% of it out of my salary, and Im glad to do it, but I won't be able to continue after April' 14.

After logging into NSN look for CBSAP in center of page. Put mouse over events and click on "Add/Log Event".
Good luck.
Good luck.

OK. Thanks all! All set. Looks like we should be registering these things in advance of the actual date or does that really matter?
