So I got a call from the science teacher at the local school (72 seniors in the graduating class this year!) wondering if I could help a volunteer parent run some sort of star party. We found out my other astronomy club (The Aldrich Astronomical Society) is hosting one later this month for my town (West Boylston, MA). So I suggested a solar viewing event. We held it today with no advertising and no announcement other than a placard outside the library. I set up on the library grounds and stayed for about 2 1/2 hours. In that time I gave out at least 30 sets of eclipse glasses (Thanks Stephen!) and shared views of the sun with about 40 people, non of which had seen the sun this way.
I was very pleased with the turn out and now the library wants to make it a monthly event!
