My first official CBSAP event tomorrow.

Post by Braditude »

Sorry for the short notice.
Even though I have had the telescope out, this will be my first after joining the club.
Thanks to Stephen for sending the glasses, although I wasn't planning on this event this soon, I'll probably run out.
Looks like the weather here in sunny So Cal will be a great one.
Its a little windy today and maybe some tomorrow, but it blew away all of the clouds today.
I'll be at Library park. The NW corner of Myrtle Ave and Lime St in Monrovia Ca.
I have posted the event on the Night Sky Network, Facebook and through our local MonroviaNow.com Enews.
Loading up the car tonight, I almost forgot the counterweight and .....telescope!
But I have a checklist and will check it after dinner.
Thanks for all of the support.
Now I'm just going to have to buy more scopes and try to play catch up with Stephen!

Brad

I'll have to post some pics here as I don't have a web sight or anything fancy.
Will try to put them on tonight or at least by Sunday.

Even the Mormons came out to look.
Of course in return I got a small lecture!
I told them I had only one god today, the SUN!

Not a cloud in the sky today.
49 Deg F to 81 Deg F..
The sun could have put on a better show but it was still a fun day.
Scout master wants me to put on a show for the cub scouts, day and night time!

Nice work Brad! Thank you so much.. Now I guess it is easier to understand some of things posted in my time lapses. Like the 9 years old and up rule I use..:)...got tired of readjusting the scopes and cleaning buggers off the eyepieces.

I went in and edited the posts by clicking the "insert" button next to each attachment so that it would show in the posts.

By the way, its not the number of scopes that make a great outreach, man, its the number of visitors, and you did good!

This is totally awesome. I like the sunshield. I wonder if there is a bigger one to protect the top of my bald palette? :))

I can't tell which is the more infectious smile. The little boy or the lady. I love the responses from children but I have discovered the "Wow" factor of adults who have only seen the sun on TV. All this makes it worth the little effort doesn't it?

I agree with Stephen about the amount of scopes and would add the size of the scope doesn't matter either. So far I have done a couple of public outreaches with the the club borrowed Lunt LS 35 and my ES 127 with the Lunt White Light Wedge.

Thanks for showing the obvious good time had by all.

Brad, looks like it went well. I also like the sun shield. Could you give us more detail or info on shield?

Amazing Brad!! What a great event :) I also like the sun shield, that is pretty professional and the seat, well, that is magnificent, one seat fits all. You live in a really beautiful place, I can't believe some just had T-shirts on.

Well done on such a great day :)

Believe it or not, I ride my bicycle to work everyday and wear shorts and a tee shirt.
I forgot one pic, me! Next time I'll try to remember. There were a lot more people of course but I didn't take photos of everyone. Too busy talking..
Here are a couple more pics I took of the shield today.
Its made from I think 6 layers of pre preg carbon fiber. Same stuff that aircraft is made of.
We use it at work. There is still a large roll of it in the freezer that won't be used as it is out of date but still good for my projects.
I took 6 sheets (.01" thick each) and just made a flat sheet. I didn't vacuum this as it was a quick and dirty cure as the vacuum process takes a bag, seals etc. I just put a weight on top and cured it. Cut the sheet out after cure to fit my pattern.
Made an aluminum bracket to fit the curve of the LS60 and attached with Pem nuts and screws. Used hook and loop to attach to scope.
Thanks Stephen for the tip on the photos. I'll try now to see if I can get them to show unm

Oh, I forgot, the chair is a Catsperch kit that I think I saw on CN, or came across on the Internet.
You can buy in kit form, already assembled or plans. Also in different heights, and maybe different wood.
This is red oak with several different shades of stain and several layers of polyurethane for the UV protective coat
