NBCFAE ACE Academy Solar Images with LHIRES III added...

Post by solarchat »

Every year, the National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees (i am a member, regional officer and webmaster for them) puts on a week long aviation career education camp where they bring in students who won an essay competition to learn about aviation and science. The students came through my Air Traffic Control facility yesterday and I was asked to put on a solar show for them, which of course I did.

I used Anthony Davoli's (ADM Manufacturing) custom made three way adaptors with two adjustable rails on both mounts for the first time. I was able to mount the Shelyak spectrograph along with my imaging setup and add another scope for three complete wavelengths on the visual mount. It worked really well! Once Dan Cook's color PGR cam gets here I wont have to use false color for the spectrum but for now I just used a Grasshopper to display the H-Alpha and CaK lines alternating.

The images are just straight up solar disks, nothing fancy. Thats how I roll...:)

and the video from the H-alpha absorption line. ASTRO IIDC will broadcast in false color for the live preview but it only records in monochrome. Here it is complete with dust bunnies...getting used to using this thing.

Super images!... and another example of state of the art solar stuff coming from Buffalo, NY. B) Anthony's work is great. I have benefited from a few great custom solutions over the years.
