Hi all! I'm so happy to report that participating partners in International Sun-day are coming in daily! If you plan to participate as a club or organization, could I ask that you provide your LOGO and a link to either your website or Facebook page? That will save me a lot of time and reduce the margin of error. You may also add any details of what your club or organization plans to do if you know that at this time. I will share your logos and plans on the International SUN-day Facebook page as diligently as I can. Here is the link to the facebook group page, feel free to join if you aren't FB shy! :) :thanx: https://www.facebook.com/groups/InternationalSUNday/

Peter is there a way to get Stargazing Live involved in broadcasting yours and any other Solar Outreach events worldwide on June 22nd? I'm not sure if they do that. I was hoping you could fill me in. :)
Thank you!

Does anyone know if BBC Stargazing Live can do broadcasts of people's Solar Outreach Events on International Sunday? If so, can they do it for groups worldwide or just in the UK? Thanks for any help anyone can provide. :thanx:

Hi Pam

The Astronomy centre http://www.astronomycentre.org.uk/

just north of Manchester.

The BBC Stargazing Live event only occurs in the first week of January http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b019h4g8

and they advertise local star parties here http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b019h4g ... res/events

but they wouldn't film anything in the summer. Sometimes the BBC Sky at Night programme go round star parties and film the event. I have no idea how we could get them interested in filming an event though for an episode?

Hi all! Just a quick update for International SUN-day. New groups have been coming on board every day!
I had a meeting with the president of Slooh.com and they will be doing a SUN-day broadcast production on June 22nd, 2014.
I will feed them images from our participating partner's live events and they will work the pictures into the broadcast!
I'm pretty excited about that! If any of you have a club that's interested in organizing a solar party let me know and I will add you to the list. Clear skies solar friends! http://events.slooh.com/

Hi all!
The International SUN-day global campaign is really taking off! I've got over 100 clubs on board to celebrate the sun with us on June 22nd, 2014!
There's still time for you to get your club listed as a participating partner. Just send me a logo and a link to your FB group or webpage and I will announce you as a partner in this inaugural global event!
All you solar people get those scopes out on June 22nd and participate! If your observatory has a name and you want to be added, just let me know. Share a picture and I will post it on the International SUN-day Facebook page. Don't be left out.
There's only 1 chance to get in on an inaugural event! Thank you!

ForrestLockhart wrote:Stephen,
Our community observatory is planning to host a solar open house on Solar SUNday, June 22nd. Our Venus Transit open house hosted over 900 guests, proving that the public shares our fascination with the Sun. We'll have about a dozen Ha scopes from 40mm PST's to 90mm Coronado's, plus several white light refractors in the 80-100mm range.
We'll also be hosting solar presentations on our nearby college campus. Don't know the exact presentation program yet, but we still have time to put that together. We just formed a group to develop an advertising plan for the event and have been getting excellent response from our Observatory Docent team. This will be a blast!
Your planned event has really built a fire under our observatory volunteers. Since the observatory is self-supporting, we can use as many solar glasses as you can make available.
Forrest
Cameron Park Rotary Community Observatory
Sierra Stargazers
Forrest, Thank you for the update you sent me regarding your club's outrageous plans to participate in International SUN-day! What a great group of volunteers you have! I'm overwhelmed at all the hard work your group will be doing over the next few weeks! Thank you for your efforts! :hamster:
Here are the plans Forrest sent me: "Plans to celebrate Solar SUNday have really resonated with the community
here in El Dorado County. We wanted to get something out to the schools
before summer break, so a simple half-sheet monochrome flyer went out to
each teacher. Response was very encouraging. The School Board gave us an
area in their booth at the County Fair, which is held only a week prior to
the event. Somehow two TV news groups heard about our plans and intend to
send crews up to the observatory to cover the goings-on. Considering
previous public response to astro things up here, we've had to go back to
the drawing board to beef up Docent staffing and borrow as many solar
scopes as we can find. Our restrooms at the observatory may not be adequate
to serve the crowd, so the adjacent community college has been asked to
open a class building so their facilities can take up the slack. Two weeks
from the event & we're excited with how things are fitting together.
An FYI is that the local INTEL facility just asked us to take part in their
annual Kids to Work day. Nearly 3,000 kids, plus parents normally attend
this event. The event takes place on....June 24th. :-( Two days after
Solar SUNday! INTEL agreed to place our scopes just outside the main
science exhibit hall, so we would be visited by all who pass through the
exhibits. After some intense discussion our Observatory solar team decided
to go for broke and agree to set up an 8-scope solar observing station for
the event. So far, all of our team has volunteered to work the 6 hour
party. I think we'll be pretty busy around here in a couple of weeks.
Forrest Lockhart"
