How to build a magnetometer- Tutorial

Post by Carbon60 »

Hi all,

I was asked to produce a write up on how to build a magnetometer, so I've pulled some notes together which I hope will be of some interest.

The attachment explains it all, but basically the device is very sensitive and it enables even very small (sub nT) fluctuations in Earth’s magnetic field to be logged and plotted. CME impacts are particularly impressive and this device records every detail as the magnetic environment is impacted, compressed and distorted. Given its simplicity, it is remarkably good at reproducing magnetograms recorded by the professionals. Ideal for when the clouds roll in..... :)

Stephen/Ken, I'd be grateful if this could be transferred to the tutorial section.

Thanks.

Stu.
