Latests results of Solar Spectra with the 600 grating!

Post by Cschur »

Greetings spectral friends,

The huge project was finished this weekend, a full UV to IR scan of the solar spectrum in LIVING COLOR. The brand new DBK41 camera is performing flawlessly and I was able to get a few jupiter test shots with it as well.

When I look into the eyepiece of my spectrograph at the solar spectrum, I see a gorgeous intense rainbow of colors so pure and crisp with the forest of lines superimposed. My initial black and white shots of the spectrum with my DMK cameras were interesting, but its like the excitement was sucked out of them without color. Now I can shoot full color spectrums and they are nearly as stunning as what the eye sees with an eyepiece. So without delay, here is the new write up.

Great results!

How did you clean the spectrum?

Thanks guys! Alex, you select just the spectrum, and resize to 1 pixel tall, but same width. Then resize again to full height. It averages out any defects but retains and enhances any faint lines.

Amazing results there Chris. There is so much information in that broad swath form the UV through IR...makes my head spin!!!

Thank you Brian and Ken! One could spend hours trying to identify hundreds of lines, so why not just take in the awesomeness of the solar rainbow and ponder its significance? Color rules!
