CME from 2036 Flare- Magnetic response

Post by Carbon60 »

Like a few of us on this site, I was fortunate enough to witness the M7 flare from AR2036 directly for myself and snap a few AVIs last Friday afternoon (UK).

The region also ejected a CME which arrived yesterday, late morning, and which continued to produce ripples in our magnetic environment through the night. Unlike myself, my magnetometers don't sleep, so I was able to record the event (mild G1 storm) in its entirety over this period.

A G1 storm is not particularly impressive, but witnessing the birth of the CME and then recording the geomagnetic effects a couple of days later was an interesting experience.

Here are the data with a couple of inset shots taken using my 150mm PST mod. Ignore the scale on the left which would usually be recalibrated to be approximately the field in nT.

Thanks for looking.

Now Stu all you would need are some Aurora shots and you'd have the hatrick.Great science.

Many thanks everyone. I appreciate your comments.

Seeing the aurora would have been wonderful, Derek.

Cheers

Nifty stuff, being able to correlate your observing with the subsequent magnetic activity.
