Sun in ca2H line from the wings to the center
My last work, on last may, 6, of sun imaging in Ca2 H line at 3968 A.
The device is the usual Hires spectroscope VHIRSS in digital spectrohelioscope mode.
http://www.lightfrominfinity.org/VHIRSS/VHIRSS.htm
http://www.lightfrominfinity.org/VHIRSS ... images.htm
I first obtained two images, one from 50 frames of 0.028 A each for a bandpass of 1.44 A, about the whole line, and another of seven frames, for a 0.2 A bandpass, at the very center of the line. The control image was from Meudon Spectroheliograph.
The 50 frames were after joint i a short movie that shows the dramatic change of appearance of the sun passing from the wing to the center of the line
The movie is a t the following link :

Note) if you get a window "file unavailable" simply close the window to watch the film.

Very interesting work and nicely presented.
That's a great piece of kit.

Hi fulvio
welcome to that wonderful site, have fun in the sun.
Very dramatic how the contrast is rising and fading, thanks for sharing

Re: Sun in ca2H line from the wings to the center
Thanks, Swisswalter, there is another addendum, that one can see a scan of solar cromosphere from low (wings) to higher zone (center line) where the abundance of ionized calcium show its better sensitivity to the magnetic fields of active regions and the line pass from absorbtion to emission, as shown in the image here joint.Very dramatic how the contrast is rising and fading, thanks for sharing

Very nice, Fulvio! Welcome to the site.
With slightly higher resolution, one can see the double reversal in the line core.

There is some evidence of it in the spectrum image you have presented.
Cheers.
Peter.

A lot more involved than with my solar scopes but a greater depth of information from the one instrument. Thanks for the links a very interesting read.
