Minor CME Impact 1st/2nd Aug 2014

Post by Carbon60 »

Minor impact from a solar magnetic filament which launched a CME on July 30th.

I've compared my garden magnetometer data with Chambon la Foret and included a coronagraph of the CME event taken from Spaceweather.com in the image below. The degree of correlation appears to be pretty good. This is a slightly modified set-up with the tuned circuit now residing inside a thermos flask inside a 'cool box' to try to minimise the rate of change in temperature during the day. This has really improved the output, making it much more stable against ambient thermal fluctuations. :D

Many thanks for your comments, guys.

Thanks, Stephen, for raising the profile of magnetometry! :D

Much appreciated.
