2nd CME has arrived! Strong Geomagnetic Response
The second CME, this one from the X1.6 flare which exploded on September 10th, has arrived. The geomagnetic response has been quite significant (G3 storm), sparking beautiful aurora in northern, southern and mid latitudes.
This is the strongest geomagnetic response so far recorded on my magnetometers. Now temperature stabilised, my data appear to correlate very well with professional systems operated as part of the INTERMAGNET network
Thanks for looking.
Stu.

Very impressive Stu! Too many lights down here in Brum for even looking for anything less than kp8/9.

Hi Stuart
by the way, I find your plot showes many more details (resolution) as the "chambon la foret" one . For me you are the men "chapeaux"

First class work Stu! a pity it is cloudy here, keep us alerted for more auroras though

Stu: as Walter suggests, you seem to have slightly better signal to noise than the "Cambon la Foret" measurements, at least on the time scale of 24 hours. Do you have better or worse temporal resolution (i.e. fast time response)?

Re: 2nd CME has arrived! Strong Geomagnetic Response
Thanks for your comments and encouragement, everyone.
In relation to resolution, I'm capturing data every 2.5 minutes and show these in general, but I also capture data every second and store these data in my records should they be of any use at a later date. I also use these 'hi-res' data for my 'sonification' work to render the data audible, so that we can 'hear' the effects of the solar wind on our magnetosphere.
INTERMAGNET data are generally taken/displayed at 1 minute intervals, although they also capture data every second. Some great background information can be found at http://www.ipgp.fr/~chulliat/papers/Chu ... _2009b.pdf
Thanks for your interest.

Re: 2nd CME has arrived! Strong Geomagnetic Response
Terrific, Stu!
Thanks for the informative presentation. I wish I'd had cloudless skies to appreciate those aurorae. They can be quite spectacular here, but I've been too lazy to take pictures!
Cheers.
Peter.
