20141018 Interesting lines

Post by Wah »

Although the collimation of my SHG is not done yet, I used it to see the solar spectrum last Saturday.
I have found so many more interesting lines that can possible see prominence, including the Mg and Na lines.
It is so pitty that my Mg line video file is crashed...

I think it needs very very narrow bandwidth to capture full disk of those weak prominence lines.
It is much easier to detect these weak lines by using the edge prominence.

Very nice, Wah.

Searching the web, I found some interesting material. Here's a link to some eclipse spectra, showing emission lines in the chromosphere.
http://www.eurastro.de/webpages/MRSPECT.HTM
Some of your unknown lines (are they in the green?) might be iron.

There's also a paper showing interesting "reversed" structure in the H lines in prominences (http://arxiv.org/abs/1210.5643).
It might be interesting to plot some of your emission lines and see what the lineshapes look like!

Cheers.
Peter.

I didn't find many prominence in the green part of the spectrum.
The unkown1 was UV part, and the other unknowns are in the deep red to IR.
It is possible that some of them are overlapped with 2nd order UV spectrum.

Peter, your SHG has higher resolution than mine, I think you can capture more interesting lines~
