Amateur spectrohelioscopes - information wanted
I've been commissioned to write a book on amateur spectrohelioscopes and if you have built (or started to build) a SHS or SHG I would be interested in including details of your instrument.
(I already have Fred on board!)
Full recognition of any/ all submissions would be made in the book.
Please let me know if you are interested.
kind regards,
Ken

Hi Ken,
I have a a few different models that I could describe for your book.

Re: Amateur spectrohelioscopes - information wanted
A long overdue labour of love....
Fred has tried very hard over the past few decades to maintain the interest in SHG. With the advent of CCD's in the early 2000's the ball game changed dramatically.
IMHO it's never been easier to get into SHG's and the support software just gets better and better.
In ten years time I think the current commercial solar filter suppliers will be out of business.
Guys,
Please drop me an email to maintain the contact and I'll confirm the arrangements. Thanks!

This one line is why I am building a SHG when I first saw results with such a simple setup I was shocked
I have Fred Vieo book from 1991 and its wonderful
But image synthesis hardware was a bit daunting
reverting back to a scope and a spectroscope and a web cam allows for a smaller device
and off loading the image work to a computer is just easier
If I can help count me in
right now more help is flowing my way.

Re: Amateur spectrohelioscopes - information wanted
l also have difficulty for making image synthesis hardware, until now is just thinking for this project.
Although Fred Veio's book mentioned some idea, but I can't find some key components to make the demo.
Now l have the diy spectroscope here and use Wah!! supplied software to process the avi file.
May I join in?
Cheers
Neville

I am in the process of installing a solar telescope with spectroscope that will be fed by a coelostat. I would also be interested in contributing to your book.

Re: Amateur spectrohelioscopes - information wanted
Neville/ Ralph,
Thanks for the interest in the project.
I'm collating information at the moment to determine what I can include...
Drop me an email to keep in touch while this process continues. (kenm(dot)Harrison(at)gmail(dot)com)
It would be good obviously to include as many amateur examples as possible.
