Stong Kp7 G3 Geomagnetic Storm

Post by Carbon60 »

Hi All,

Yesterday the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) tipped south. The solar wind and southerly magnetic field carried by it connected with our own magnetic field and allowed charged particles (mainly protons and electrons) to enter our atmosphere, creating strong and beautiful aurora.

As a G3 storm (Kp7) this was the strongest since last September.

Magnetometer data below.

Thanks for looking.

Good data Stu, shame it was cloudy at the time, there was a good chance of seeing something from that one...

Great data :bow pity I will never be able to make one.

I saw this on Spaceweather this morning, I always read these alerts a day late, I felt better that it was cloudy all night

Thanks everyone.

Hopefully the 'Magnetometer Project' thread will help describe at the practical level how to build one of these.

Mike G will work through the process described in my tutorial and we'll work out any wrinkles along the way.

Cheers

Stu.
