CME impact rumbling on.

Post by Carbon60 »

Hi all,

Earth's magnetic field is still responding to the effects of the recent CME impact and the storm continues. Here are my magnetometer data from yesterday along with NOAA data on Kp index. After the highs of March 17th (Kp8) the latest Kp5 storm seems a little tame, yet it really is still a significant storm and aurora watchers north and south should stay alert.

Hi Stuart.
I noticed that yesterday was still pretty active compared to 'normal'.
Other than the very large value changes, I would have missed most of the action with my 150s cadence - this is what I got over the two days:

There are obviously some big swings and the main 'jumps' are there when you know where to look but.................. none of the fine detail.
I can now see very clearly why you run the 1s cadence at the same time 'just in case' and I have done the same

Nice results! Guess it takes a while for things to settle down after such a big hit...
