Gust of solar plasma sparks G2 geomagnetic storm

Post by Carbon60 »

Hi All,

Despite the recent rash of large sunspots, geomagnetic activity has been weak as of late, with few Earth directed CMEs heading our way to excite magnetometers globally.

The best on offer most recently has been a G2 geomagnetic 'storm', which occurred a couple of days ago when a gust of solar wind pushed against our magnetosphere causing magnetometers to twitch and creating aurora.

Here are the data around the event from my own magnetometer, based here in the north-west of England. As you can see, it was very transient and only lasted a few hours before things settled back to normal.

Thanks everyone.

Glad it's still working well, Mike. Good that we can cross-reference.

Cheers
