but I find all of this SHG stuff very interesting

J-P,
I think I see why you are getting skewed images....
The spectrum needs to be aligned horizontally across the CCD chip, the lines within the spectrum are slanted due to your spectrograph configuration.
The processing software should then allow you to correct the slant before selecting the strip for processing.
