1)is there near IR lines that make a good SHG target?
2) how do you identify them ?

CaII at 8542 and, if your optics and camera can support it, HeI at 10830. CaII is usually easy.
How to identify them? That was discussed here: http://solarchat.natca.net/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=17192
If you're going to do this sort of thing then a calibrated wavelength scale of some sort is essential. Normally the instrument is optimized on something easy like Ha before venturing out into the invisible. As an aside, the performance of some lenses deteriorates faster in the IR direction than the UV, so don't be surprised if things look bad there. Refocusing will be needed at any rate, as it is when going from Ha to Ca H or K

Observing the Sun with complex optical systems since 1966, and still haven't burned, melted or damaged anything.
Not blind yet, either!
Light pollution? I only observe the Sun, magnitude -26.74. Pollute that!

thx
BTW saw pictures of your rig -- real nice
when was last time you used as a visual instrument

My last visual instrument was a folded design in 2009, just for old times sake. It was everything I remembered a shs to be, and thus didn't distract me from the digital approach.

I get the feeling from your reply that method is better suited for images(grams) than visual
