Geomagnetics- Summer summary

Post by Carbon60 »

Hi All,

Here's a three-month summary of my local geomagnetic environment, driven by solar activity, from June through August 2015.

Despite the reduction in sunspot numbers, generally, the occasional large active region and several large coronal holes appear to be generating mild geomagnetic storms by either increasing the solar wind speed, or creating the odd CME, or tipping the IMF south, making the solar wind more effective at penetrating the magnetic bubble protecting the Earth.

It will be interesting to monitor the changes as we head further away from solar max.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

An excellent quarterly report Stu. Hope it's lively at the end of october, we're off to back and beyond in Northern Iceland...

Great presentation Stu.
I have noticed the odd burst of activity - the one on 27th August was pretty good with quite rapid changes on the screen - and will also be watching out for future changes.

Thanks everyone. Hopefully more to come.

Glad your magnetometer is still up and running, Mike.

Mark, I hope you get to see a good aurora show in Iceland.
