Hi all,
A fast flowing solar wind (570km/s) and southerly interplanetary magnetic field combined to create a respectable G2 geomagnetic storm yesterday and overnight (UT).
Here are my data from my magnetometer
and corresponding Bz interplanetary magnetic field (NOAA)
Bz 'below the line' means that the solar plasma, carrying magnetism from the Sun, is oriented with it's field pointing south. This allows the field to combine with our own, creating aurora as plasma streams in to our atmosphere around the poles.
Thanks for looking.
Stu.

Excellent capture! There were quite a few images of this recorded in and around the UK of this, was looking on the FB group for it earlier. In true tradition I was tucked up in bed asleep when all the auroral action was occuring, but, in lovely Brum I suspect there is too much light pollution to have seen anything anyway...

Hi Mark,
I was out scanning the skies around 9:30pm for the merest glimpse of green glow, but to no avail. As with your location, there's just too much light pollution around. Also, I think the best chances were in the middle of the night....too late for me!
Cheers

Great data Stu I got an aurora alert yesterday at midday, I guess there was a minor hit yesterday?
