I had a chance to go to Hartness house museum in Vermont
this is quartz filter used by Henry E. Paul to see proms
I only know of only three people that ever made these in
the last 70 years
has anyone ever used one or know anyone that still use them
a bit of past history

From what I can see in the photo, this looks like an early Lyot filter.
Modern Lyot filters are used extensively in observatories.
