As requested by Alexandra......
Here is what my magnetometer recorded on Tuesday-Wednesday (12th-13th April):
The first event which peaked at about midnight on Tuesday was a minor (G1) geomagnetic storm resulting from an increase in the solar wind speed passing over the Earth. It produced some minor auroral displays if you managed to avoid the cloud
The second event which peaked at about 9pm on Wednesday was a slightly more active, but still G1, storm caused by a high speed stream flowing from a series of 'Earth directed' coronal holes.
Many thanks to Stu for help constructing the magnetometer and for the use of his excellent software. It is great to have a method of observing the sun which is not degraded by cloud, rain, poor seeing and the dreaded jetstream

My pleasure Derek - it is nice to be able to provide you with something of interest even though the rain is pouring down outside

Nice observations there Mike! I thought about getting home early this aft to maybe try a full disk, but then a few minutes later, even though it was sunny, it was raining too...

Yeah, I know the feeling; I was keeping my fingers crossed for much of the day but only managed a few tantalising glimpses of the sun
