A fast flowing solar wind stream, peaking at around 570km/s, with embedded CME struck Earth's magnetic field yesterday, generating a G1 solar storm and beautiful aurora. Here are my magnetometer data showing the event as it unfolded from around noon onwards (UT).

Re: G1 Solar Storm 3rd August
Nice record Stu! I'm hoping these coronal holes hang around for another month or so, we're off to Iceland in a couple of weeks and have seen pictures from over there of the aurora from the past days. Very early for the season, but if conditions are similar and i'm up at 2am there's a decent chance I should get something. I wasn't going to take the DSLR, but after seeing images from the past couple of days I think I will have to make space for it

Thanks Alexandra/'Highfnum'.
Good luck with the Aurora hunting, Mark.
So satisfying to see activity when the clouds otherwise block the view.
