Hi everyone,
Quartz is well know for his strange optical caracteristics. I recently found this article : http://www.minsocam.org/ammin/AM37/AM37_158.pdf
which describe the use of quartz plates and polarizing filters staked together in order to obtain monochromatic light.
I was wondering if it could be used for imaging the sun as a typical SHG would do.
The only pb I see is that the bandwidth isn't narrow enough for this application (5 plates = 75A) unless we stack at least 9 quartz plates, achieving 4.6A, which would make the device pretty long.
Also it would be pretty difficult to construct... but the results could be surprising !
Quartz monochromator for imaging the sun ?

you can find articles to build them in ATM book three
and sky and tel atm April 1951 thru OCT 1951 by Richard Dunn
a challenging task indeed
