Hi all,
There's yet another large coronal hole spewing solar wind earthward, creating beautiful aurora and moving the needles on magnetometers globally.
Here are my data from Preston, UK, which clearly show an increasing degree of geomagnetic unrest through the day and a significant upswing mid afternoon when Earth entered deeper into the fast flowing plasma.
The next few days should bring good viewing for aurora watchers.
Thanks for looking.
Stu.

Excellent data Stu pity the weather is so bad for viewing
Did you see the Spaceweather data showing the ocillations every 2 minutes from Norway? it would be interesting to compare your oscilallation rate to theirs to see if there is any difference between here and there.

Good data again Stu!
Would be great if you could stream this graphs 'live' on the web

Re: Geomagnetic unrest 18th Jan
Thanks Alexandra/Mark,
I run this thing 24/7, but occasionally shut down for a spot of maintenance.......guess what, it was down at the critical time. I did, however, write to the solar physics department at Lancaster Uni with my previous data and the fine detailed structure was confirmed as real, coinciding with their data, so at least that's something. In any case, there isn't necessarily good agreement between data from disparate magnetic stations.
I have often thought of streaming my data and might do this someday.
Cheers
Stu.

Re: Geomagnetic unrest 18th Jan
I am increasingly convinced that this has something to do with our earthquakes, since yesterday that the center Italy started shaking again.
Looks like the magnetic event attract or reject the center pole of the Earth and that crumbles the weakest parts of the earth's crust

An interesting theory, Geremia, but statistical evidence suggests that there is no causal link.

So sorry to see on the news the effects of the earthquakes.

Thanks for the interesting link Stu and thanks for your measurements that, I have to follow more carefully, I'm sure this is the third coincidence, maibe the Geomagnetic effect are proportional to a specific position of the Earth, maibe the weakest part or maibe this is the right time i have to believe in the theory of the casualty :-)
