in Henry King "the history of the telescope" page 322 at bottom
he mentions "dark hydrogyn flocculi" at Hgamma line

I notice that except for H-alpha an active region looks dark in other hydrogen lines
do you guys know why?

Nice shot of the big spot, the plage seems to be dark apart from a bright ring round the spot.

Now try to get a very strong flare in all hydrogen lines :D
I am curious to see how bright it would appear in H-gamma, H-delta etc
