Hi folks,
A proton storm generated by the explosive force of an X8 solar flare (originating at AR2673) didn't only produce a neutron ground level event, or GLE(increased neutron count)as reported on SpaceWeather.com, it also appears to have been geoeffective, producing a dip in the local magnetic declination, as detected on my magnetometer here in the UK, and others. The time correlation would be remarkable if the events were not in some way connected.
Thanks for looking.
Stu.

That's very interesting Stu, a lot of great data coming from these X class events, pity we didn't have more during this maximum. Maybe we will get more during minimum

Re: Geoeffective Proton Storm
Tends to be more in the declining phase of the cycle. See Scotts paper for an explanation...

Re: Geoeffective Proton Storm
Many thanks Mark, Alexandra & John.
An interesting paper, Mark. Hopefully more fireworks to come during the declining cycle, then.
Cheers
