SHS at stellafane VT 2019
its been improved
image as good as filter
only negative is narrow field view
Note any sun images taken by hand hold S8 do not show quality of image
but I posted them anyway

ok now for images (no justice)
I was able to see "peach" on surface and proms
but S8 camera could see flicker that human eye can not see refresh rate was 45 per second
but here they are anyway
I going to ask those guys if I can bring a better camera and mount to get better quality images

following is from DavidG on changes and future upgrades
1) Improved slow motion controls and added hand paddle to allows the user to easily slew around the surface of the Sun
2) Added longer singlet focusing mechanism so the singlet can be focused from CaK to Ha
3) Replaced Fecker metal flat with poor polish and flatness on the Ceolostat with a 1/20 wave made from Zerodur. That greatly reduced the scatter and improved the contrast.
4) Found why the Ceolostat was tracking fast for 87 years. The main worm gear has 360 teeth so it needs a 1/8 rpm of the drive shaft. The gear ratio was about 1/7 rpm from calculating the gear ratios in the gear train. The problem was that the pinion gear on the 60 rpm motor had 18 teeth and needed 16 teeth. The math then worked for the rest of the gear train and that resulted in the needed 1/8 rpm that makes the Ceolostat mirror rotate at once in 48.00 hrs. No more RA drift !
5) Made a new eyepiece with better eye relief and more magnifications
6) Made a better grating mount that allows the grating to be per-tilted so we can now reach down to CaK
7) Moved the motor that drives the Anderson prisms to remove any vibration from getting into the image
8) Tested the singlet and slightly stopped it down to mask a slight turned edge
9) Added kinematic feet to the ceolostat plate so it could be critically aligned.
10) Added the pipe baffle to keep anyone from looking into the white light image entering the building.
The future improvements are
I donated three new larger gratings, 2.75" x 2.75" , blazed in the visible, near IR and near UV that we plan add in a few months to replace the 2" x 2" one that I donated and we are using now.
We also just received during Stellafane, 40mm x 40mm Anderson prisms to replace the smaller one which should increase the field of view to about 25% of the Sun.
I also built a solar scintillation monitor that we plan to add to helps us in imaging.
I donated a 1/10 wave 4" Quartz flat that was coated at Stellafane and it will replace the original plate glass steering flat that is about 1/2 wave.
The solar panel will be updated from 35 watts to 235 watts so there will be no risk of draining the batteries during Stellafane.

Carbon60 - yes seeing an 80 year old device still working and only 4 hrs(car) from where I live so very cool
