Captured the video before going to work this morning.
I can see tiny prominence in the raw spectrum!
That was so exciting~! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Well done!
A small step along the way...but going in the right direction.
Look forward to seeing your final images.

 please could I have a beginners guide

Am I looking at the vertical or horizontal lines? how do you know it is a prominence and not an absorption line? I'm not really sure what I am looking at.

The dark absorption line of Ha can show both proms (at the solar edge), bright areas of plage/ sunspots and darker areas of filaments/ sunspots.
As the slit in the spectrohelioscope (SHS) "scans" across the solar disk each CCD frame contains an Ha line with this data. Think of it like an old TV with 500 lines which make up the final image...
Similarly if the column containing the Ha data is isolated and separated from each frame then stacked one next to each other a full disk image showing the usual surfaces features can be obtained.
The software used is getting better and better. Give it a couple of more years and I'm sure SHS's will be producing images (at any wavelength!) of great detail and resolution.

Another processing approach, and try to bring more details to the filaments and active regions.

This is the raw "stacked" result.
