Damadged Induced Transmission Filter (ITF)

Post by matokyno »

Hi everyone.
I am new to this forum and a complete novice to solar gazing.
I was following chats on this forum for a while and would like to convert my Meade DS2090 AT-TC go to refractor D90, F800,f8.8
Does anyone know if this scope is suitable?I know that focus should be around 10.So is this an issue?
Also i have a opportunity to buy a corado scope with faulty Induced Transmission Filter (ITF) which has suffered 'rusting' due to aging.
Do i need this filtering in order to use the scope safely even after converting it?
Should i be bothered with this at all,i mean with buying it and replacing faulty parts if necessary?
For any suggestions and helping answers I'd be very grateful.
Many thanx and greetings from Slovakia.

Hi there and welcome to the forum! The refractor should work fine. PST should be ok, are you planning on doing a stage 1 or stage 2 mod?

Hi Mark.

So that mean i would not need ITF in new set up?
If stage 1mod consist of removal tube from PST and attaching rest of the unit to scope,,, than this would be the case i gues.I have not seen a proper plans yet so not 100%sure what's real difference, hence I am newbe...

Hi Matúš

welcome to that wonderful site. Have sun, fun and mod the hell out of it.

You are speaking of a coronado scope. Do you mean a PST ?

Matus,
If the "rusty" ERF is at the front of the older PST, this is replaced effectively by a new ERF fitted to the front of the donor OTA.
I have a PST Mod write up available - drop me an email address for a copy.
