Hello, new user and looking for a way to repair my BF15

(1) On other forums I can't ask if a Lunt Blocking filter could be used with
a Coronado SM90 and TV102. If additional filter is required, is it more than
a ND filter?

(2) A quick search of the forum I BELIEVE I see the ITF in the BF15 and the PST are the same?
If so, I could use that info to dig further in the forums

In a nutshell, Ladies and Gentlemen, if there is an "off the shelf" ITF to replace the rusted
ITF, I can use common hand tools. I also have a Lunt 100 with the 18MM BF, so the 90 Etalon has
seen duty in a Double Stack mode. All that said, I wish to repair my rusted BF without going
through the hit or miss of Meade's repair service.

Thank you for reading this and for any help.

Tom

Hi Tom

very much welcome to that wonderful site. Have sun, fun and mod the hell out of it ;-)

Yes, dig in our mod section there is a solution to it.

The Lunt B1200 works perfect with a coronado 90 SM and the PST stage 2 mods

If your ITF is the same as a PST then Maier Photonics makes a replacement. I used one to repair my rusted ITF in my PST. http://maierphotonics.com/656bandpassfilter.aspx

Hi Tom,

Welcome to the forum!

1) Yes

2) They're not exactly the same - the bf15 ITF is based on a clear glass substrate whereas the PST ITF is based on a RG630 substrate. Maier Photonics sells a drop in replacement for the PST, if it fits in the BF15 it would would work. http://maierphotonics.com/656bandpassfilter.aspx

Thanks Mark and Dave

I have the link for the Maier Photonics, so all I need is to measure the BF15.

Surprising wealth of information on this site (Archives). Sadly, too much sails over my head

Using the SM90 up front gives the ERF protection... one of the UV-IR/Kg3 filters from Oliver (BelOptic) would do the job.

I use a Baader 35nm Ha filter sometimes on my BF15 fitted to the 102mm PST Mod.

Interesting. Is that a safe combo?

FWIW and for the general discourse here:

A few years ago on Cloudy Nights there was a discussion which (IIRC) postulated that a Baader UV/IR cut filter would help to reduce the thermal load on the blocking filter. I recognize several names here as posting from time to time there, so others might remember?

In prep for the Maier Filter, I compared the two Coronado BF. One is at least 5 years old and has been stored away in a dry environment. Both BF have this screw on 1.25 inch filter

Just looking in from the Telescope side, neither appear to have rust.

after five years no rust, that is good news
