Quark and 2" eps
Quark and 2" eps
Hello Guys,
I will receive my Quark the next week and the first thing I will do is ordering the adapter to fit 2" eps with Quark as my 32mm Plossl has this kind of barrel.
Walter took the pics (thanks for that Walter!) where is clearly visible that 1,25" adapter can be unscrewed easily. I will send this adapter as example to take the thread and make 2" version.
If anyone is interested, please let me know (make a list below). I will talk with mechanist to make more. As for now I don't have an idea how much it would cost but I want to have clamping ring, two or three knobs and anodized. Any other suggestions?

Re: Quark and 2" eps
Sounds good, but wouldn't there be a threaded adapter that would fit, maybe a email to Sean and ask what thread the Quark is.

Re: Quark and 2" eps
Hello Pablito ;
I believe that I read somewhere that Daystar is or will be offering a 2" adapter . In case I am incorrect I removed mine and measured it for you . I am a retired machinist and have a small lathe in my basement and will be making one for myself now . The thread on the adapter is somewhat custom for this piece and measures 1.367" (outside diameter) and the pitch is 24 threads per inch . US built so not metric .
Cloudy here so I might turn one up today and will post pics when finished .

Asked the question to Sean and got this reply.
Yes, you can remove the eyepiece adapter. The threads are 1 3/8"-24 tpi OD I believe.
By the way, we will be selling an already made 2" adapter starting next month.
Thank you,
Sean

Re: Quark and 2" eps
This is what I made up today , my background has taught me to look for ways to reduce time . This is an Antares 2" visual back for an SCT . All that was required was for me to make up a threaded ring to adapt the visual back to the Quark . Looking forward to trying this out now and thank you for putting the idea into my head Pablito .
Walter I realize not too many have a lathe in their basements but it sure helps speed up some ideas for me .

Thank you Walter , I will let everyone know what things look like through a big chunk of glass as soon as I see the sun again .
Re: Quark and 2" eps
Yeah looks pretty good, makes ya wonder why they didn't make the Quark with a 2" adapter with a 1.25 reducer.

It looks great!
And thanks for thread size. I will ask for making it today without sending my adapter.

Re: Quark and 2" eps
I am happy this was helpful for you Pablito . Was the quote for having a complete 2" adapter made up or is it to make a ring similar to what I made to adapt a ready made visual back ? I used the visual back because it allready has the brass ring , is coated and reasonably priced at $20 can . $30 for a complete custom made adapter is very reasonable .

Re: Quark and 2" eps
Hi , That 1.367" X 24 (1.365" X 24) thread is just the standard thread that was used on the T-scanner. I use the same thread on some of my mounting plates. If you need a 2" eyepiece holder I know where to get them. I don't see the advantage of going with a 2" 32mmfl eyepiece on a 18mm CA filter. But maybe it won't have to much edge darkness. If there is then try a shorter FL eyepiece.

I will be on the way soon
I am also ordering Quark adapters with SCT thread to use it with SCT reducers (0.33x and 0,66x). If anyone is interested, let me know

Re: Quark and 2" eps
Do not use SCT reducers. They have a native (build-in) coma which cancels the coma in SCT. So, if to use it in QUARK the images will have a coma.Pablito wrote:I will be on the way soon

Also, QUARK has a flat field and SCT reducer does not, because it corrects the field curvature in SCT.
If to use a reducer, better to use a reducer for long focus refractors or for Celestron HD's - they are free of coma and field curvature.
BTW. 0.33x for SCT is especially bad.

Re: Quark and 2" eps
Hi Valery. Thank you for this info. In fact, Quark will be tested also with SCT (with three front mounted mini ERFs). But trying it with refractor is veeery tempting
