Baader D-ERF Question

Frankenscope? Let's see it!***be advised that NOTHING in this forum has been safety tested and you are reading and using these posts at your own peril. blah, blah, blah... dont mess around with your eyesight when it comes to solar astronomy. Use appropriate filtration at all times...

Baader D-ERF Question

Post by thedoci »

I am working on a hypothetical Solar scope design were i intend to put a Baader D-ERF behind the telescope optics, and i was wondering if the 75mm D-ERF can withstand about 50 Watts of solar light.

When i calculate how much power the filter has to withstand when its infront of the Lens i end up with about 25W.

I calculated this value as fallows:

P_ERF = P_SUN * (Pi * R²)
were i used 1.366KW/m² as the value of solar energy per m²
All values were calculated in m²

If i am wrong with this calculation, please correct me.

If the filter can not withstand the power, then i will need to rethink the Telescope design.

Also could a Etalon be theoretically used with a Hershel wedge type energy rejection system. In this setup i would reflect the excesses solar radiation away from the etalon, and leave it with enough light to operate the camera.
