Tube ring for precise tilt of filters

Post by antonello »

Hello

I hope to write a helpful message to someone, explaining my system to adjust the tilt of a filter in an optical path.

Not long ago I bought two filters 25 mm in diameter Omega Optical like those of this Ebay auktion:
http://www.ebay.it/itm/Optical-Interfer ... 486661fa96

I have used together the two filters, one after the other (not individually in double stacking mode as in the auction ebay ...).

I used these two filters in an achromatic telescope of 60 mm in diameter and I saw for the first time in my life - with great emotion  - the prominences of the Sun in a telescope (with only 220 $!).

All this, without even needing the collimation system illustrated by Dave Groski on this site:
http://www.considine.net/dgroski/halpha/

Next, I tried these two filters with the same telescope and a Barlow telecentric self-built (for to have a f:30 telecentric system) and the image has become even better.

After this experience, I have decided to build a telescope of 150 mm in diameter for the Sun and I bought a Etalon Lunt 60 mm (60 mm double stack version).

Waiting to use this Etalon Lunt with the telescope of 150 mm in construction, I have used the filter Lunt in front of the lens of the 60 mm small achromatic telescope. I have not bought the Bloking Filter (together to the 60 mm Lunt double stacking) why I thought I'd use for this purpose one of the two filters Omega Optical.
So I did, and, as I have already written in another topic, Omega Optical filter works perfectly as bloking Filter, even though I have not been able to compare this solution with a original filter Lunt Bloking Filter.

For the moment, that's okay, waiting to finish the construction of the telescope by 150 mm.

The good quality of the images with the filters Omega Optical is also determined by good fitting of these filters, which rotate in a perfect way in the holder.

In the attached pictures you can see my solution, which I think might be helpful to others

Thanks for the attention.

Antonello

Yes, I had fun doing them, but now I'm having more fun to use them to watch the sun ... ;)

Hi Antonello

thanks for showing the filter housing. That is something I have to get too
