Stacking PST with a quark

Post by Solar B »

Probably a silly question but could you possibly stack a PST by
removing ERF & BF and then place a quark in its EP holder ?

The image will be way too dim.

Even for imaging with a lot of gain it is not worth to use.

Ok thanks Valery .... I thought it might have been at only 40mm :)

I tried this twice with two Quarks. Last winter and recently, in last August. With a first Quark Chromosphere which is moderately narrow, I can get about 50% histogram filled with 30-40ms exposure and with a gain of about 2/5 of full gain scale. So, the picture is noisy enough and not worth to process. Pictures with a single PST etalon are better, as well as pictures with single Quark (a bit less contrasty than with PST Etalon, but larger FOV).
With even narrower Quark (significantly more contrast and dimmer visually than the first sample) I can't obtain even minimally acceptable picture. Way too dim image.

I think that before Quark's blocking filter modification, it is not worth to use. Quark's blocking filter, as you have found, rejects at least 4/5 of the energy at 656nm. Too much. One can try - no problem with this, but not worth to spend efforts.

I also tried to double stack my Quarks with LS50F H-a etalons. The results are just a tad darker than with the PST etalon.

My experience of the dozen or so quarks i've looked through us that they're all different. As with anything, suck em' and see, and if it works it does, and if it don't it don't! :)

Hello everybody.

I am now working for a long time with Quark PST double stacked, on SkyWatcher 150 f5 with internal D-ERF at 5m focal length!

The exposure times will be 10-13ms at Gamma 950 Gain 250

It is a very good system. I love it.

Oreoluna....that looks so insanely simple. After the quark and PST etalon, is that just an adapter and spacer between the camera? Anything else modded that's not obvious in the photo?
