Newton Rings related to stress birefringence?

Frankenscope? Let's see it!***be advised that NOTHING in this forum has been safety tested and you are reading and using these posts at your own peril. blah, blah, blah... dont mess around with your eyesight when it comes to solar astronomy. Use appropriate filtration at all times...

I normally associate stress "fringing" with polarized light rather than narrowband light.

With a diagonal mirror you always have a polarized light. With Liot type filters you too, have a polarized light.

Teo,

Yes, you will get rid of these "rings" caused by stress birefringence if you will replace the window in the camera
for fine annealed window (any clear flat filter from Baader). But better to test such a glass with polarizers or with
your narrow band setup.

Valery.

Valery,
can you provide a link to explain the observation of Newton Rings from the stress birefringence of optical glass?
I can't find any links (in optical papers) between the two.
Thanks.
