I've had the SM40 for years and never found a replacement focuser. Sorry.

Thanks for your reply!

I have located a shop in your neck of the woods that has made an adapter that fits.
They made one for a member over at Cloudy Nights.

Since it was a few years ago, they require dimensions that I'm not sure I can provide from way over here.
I'm trying to exhaust all options that might be here in the States.

Hiya Dan,

Thanks for the link. I've kinda got used to the helical on my OTA now to be honest, it's full of backlash and slack, but i've kinda got used to how to handle it. My problem was never being able to release the black section that is screwed onto the back of the gold tube, no matter how much I tried I couldn't undo it to reveal the threads.

Understood, I've read that some threadlocker may be involved.
I think I may start looking for a small refractor with a crayford to use with the filters.
