Improvements to your PST!

Post by Merlin66 »

Sylvain Weiller, well known for his excellent images with the PST, has fitted his PST with a x1.5 photographic converter, which he claims has increased the focal length from 400mm to 600mm and gives better definition and resolution.
Interesting!!!

Note: the front thread of the PST is a 52mm thread.

I tried a 2x2 [used on a Canon camera] and I cannot focus. Tried everything within my knowledge to focus. I just cannot.

Last week I also managed to attach a SCT 10:1 focuser [viewtopic.php?t=26069#p235640] I rarely used, in place of the PST one and it is very good - view is a lot brighter thou ... maybe too much.
Once again after I managed to focus visually and with 178M, I attempted again to use the 2x2 - could not focus.

I know it is the 'poor man' choice, but I am poor enough to attempt that!

Solar Gear:
Bresser AR90/900 + PST mod + SW Auto Focuser ...
Sometime I use Explorer Scientific AR152/988 + Used once only... Altair 2" Solar Wedge (very good indeed)
Will try and do it justice when I can with the help of various filters, Baader 1.25" Solar Continuum 10nm is one.
SW 72ED Pro - fixed 'stock faulty' focuser ... 'I think' !

... and the reason I had problems might be its focal length!
I ordered another one, let's see what happens ... if no results, it means I wasted a total of £. 50!
Pffff !

Got other one but only managed to check it out quickly - did not have time + weather rubbish and this one 'seems' to work.
Next time I have steadier weather, I will test it properly. I am no expert of optics, but as I understand it is to do with 2x2 FL and this one seems to mach PST better.

Coming into this thread from a tangent here. When you're talking about 2x2 are you on about 2x2 binning?

I think they are referring to extender lenses for cameras.

Like this bad example.
