Combine Lunt 60 and PST?

Post by poita »

I haven't given this more than 3 second's thought, but is there any potential way to use a PST and Lunt 60 in some kind of combo to double stack?

Only asking as I may have both in my hands soon, and it only just occurred to me after reading the triple stack thread.

Hi Peter

I tried a double stack LUNT 100 and PST and had not enough light for a decent pic

The Lunt having an internal etalon may, well I think will, restrict placing the PST etalon at the majic -200mm
What MAY be possible is to remove the etalon assembly from the Lunt 60 and make and adaptor to fit the PST etalon just infront of the Lunt etalon then mount the whole assembly with the PST at -200mm in a f8 to f10 donor (with appropriate ERF up front)
I have double stacked PST etalons, but found them too fiddly to use...

Interesting.
The PST is currently in a donor F11 Celestron GTL80 scope with a Baader DERF up front, so that part fits the bill.

I'll end up having a go, can't resist really...

When you say "just in front" of the Lunt etalon, what sort of spacing are you thinking?

Peter,
You would have to treat the two etalons as separate systems then combine them....
1.The PST etalon has to be at the -200mm inside the prime focus of the donor.
2. The Lunt etalon has to then be spaced between the PST etalon and the new "focus" ie 200mm behind the PST etalon at the spcing given (I can't remember off hand it's on the other thread...)
Does this make sense to you?

Okay, I think I get it. (I'm hopeless without a diagram)
It also seems like a small chance of success though that there will be space for it to work, but I'll give it a go.

Thanks

-Peter

Trace the rays with a full scale drawing. It will help you understand and be great instruction! In the beginning assume that the sun is a point in the center of the field of view.

Good idea, I will sit down and do that. I'm much happier when I have a diagram!

It's unfortunate I can't scan diagrams etc at the moment, and my Win7, 64bit PC doesn't allow uploading of images etc to this forum.....bumma

Were you successful in mating the Lunt 60 to the PST etalon? Why not just place the PST etalon in front of the Lunt. Would need sme type of adapter to screw it on though.

Jim,
The etalon in the Lunt 60 is internal as is the one in the PST.
Fitting the PST etalon externally would be a waste of time - it's only 20mm aperture and would need the front negative and the rear positive lens removed etc etc....
