Will this scope work

Post by axle01 »

I just received a Skywatcher SW102/500 to mount a SM90 and BF15 on but I just came across a Black Tube Orion 120mm x 600FL F5 OTA and wondering if it would be good for full disc viewing.

I have a dual mount and thought the SW 102 with the SM90 on one side and the Orion 120 with a Baader Herschel Wedge on the other side of the dual mount.

Thoughts please.

Alan

Either of those scopes would work well for solar, but getting the full disk images will come down to the size of the chip in your camera...
The sun's disk is approx 1/100 the focal length ie 5mm or 6mm diameter - if the chip is larger than these dimensions you'll manage...if not then it's mosaics...

I have the Grasshopper3 2.8 MP Mono USB 3.0 (ICX674) so how will that go.

Alan,
According to the Datasheet, it has 1920 x 1440 pixel, 4.54micron.
This gives 8.7 x 6.5mm chip.
Should work well with either scope!!

Ok so should I mount the SM90 on the Skywatcher SW102 x 500FL or the Orion 120mm x 600FL and the Baader Wedge on the other, then I can use the Grasshopper 3 on either.

Thanks mate I will do that when the Orion arrives, I want to make sure before I get the SM90 adapter made for either of the scopes.
